THE SYMBOL OF THE SILVER SUN
On the wall that pressed a hill
turned and shone
the symbol of the Silver Sun
astray among the Trees of Life
and rotten sacrifices brought
to the Goddess of White Dogs.
It raised the bloody giddiness
of eight- ryed stars.
The horsemen riding in the night,
they nodded on their windfast horses,
trampled down into the gurgling moss
the furs of beasts and the beads of teeth,
they left knivesharp wounds
on young white necks,
and dense white smoke dissolved
into a crowblack hair
and the cupped hand of The Sower of Wars opened.

Ežerai, apsiverkusios nendrės
prakeikė mano troškimą
tapti kardu, šaldančiu ugnį ir
tirpdančiu ledą.
Žirgai viesulai žvirgždą išmynė,
nešė Nakties Karaliui karūną.
O jis, juoką praplėšęs saulės vaikaičių,
burną pravėręs giliai kvėpavo,
bet vis tiek buvo šalta.
Žvelgiau į akis, kurios trūnijo
ąžuolo lapai,
likimo veidai visada spalvoti,
vėjų melodijos, užmigusių saulių sonatos.
Ir visgi kas nukalė tą karūną
aš bandau sužinoti –
kalviai kalveliai, kalę ginklus
didžiajam Perkūnui,
palaiminti klyksmo apuoko.

The horses – whirlwinds trampled down the gravel
They brought the crown
to the Prince of The Night
He who tore the laughter of Sunchildren
Breathed deeply with an open mouth
But, anyway, it was cold
I looked in the eyes where
The leaves of an oak decayed
The faces of fate always are colourful,
Winds’ melodies, sonatas of the sleeping suns.
Nevertheless, I try to learn who did carve
that crown -
there were the same smiths who made
weapons for the Perkunas the Great
blessed by the eagle-owl’s scream.

laukams drabužį audė naują.

kad virst mirties paukščiu,
snapu suskaldžiusiu geltoną
nendrės stiebą,
o jis sustingęs žvelgė į rytus –
ten mėnulis dažytomis akimis
laivus greitus į jūrą bundančią
jau leido.

to feel
the heat of a fire that hardly glittered,
but he was looking to the east –
there the sun with closed eyes
weaved a new cloak for the fields.

to turn
into the deathbird that split
a yellow stem of the reed,
but he was looking to the east –
there the moon with painted eyes let the ships
into the awakening sea.
